We purchased our Explorer FF from Vince Lusania in Pheonix, Arizona just before COVID hit in March 2020. My wife, Laurie, and I had been camping in one of the earliest roof top tents from Eeezi – Awn out of South Africa before RTT were common in the United States. We’ve explored Death Valley, Sawtooth Mountains and one of our favorite places, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, in Southern Utah, through the years.
In 2019, we started thinking about options for longer camping adventures. We discovered that a RTT is not as suitable for base camps as it requires to breakdown camp every morning. By exploring our options, we came across MDC. The MDC is particularly well-suited to explore our favorite remote places. We have always liked to be outside, and the kitchen setup and the awning/annex gives us so many options. I think we were lucky to get our MDC Explorer Forward fold when we did and have enjoyed it so much.
Laurie and I have been outdoor enthusiasts for almost our entire lives. I was a backcountry guide with an outfitter in the early 1970’s and Laurie started exploring Capitol Reef with Colorado Outward Bound School around that same time. Since then, we continue looking for adventure. We both have completed multiple ultramarathons, and Laurie was the first woman to run the Wasatch Front 100 Mile Endurance Run, winning several times. We just can’t get enough of being outside.
